alternator bracket

Post by RoelB »

I'm a bit lost here, should there not be a bracket between the alt and the block? It is an a/c car, had young Trev here today and he also thinks there should be a bracket. ( this is how I bought the car way back )
thanks !!

Hi Roel!!

Usually that is one LONG bolt through the front bracket, alternator, spacers to the Cylinder head.

I know my A/C cars have been different though. Some one else may be able to advise - can you post a pic of the set up showing more of the front bracket you are using, this may help with identification, thanks!

Hi Pete,
The long bolt between the alt and the block cannot come out, so I do not know how to geta spacer in there, exept for taking the alt apart. Everything lines up, but it still does not look correct. I never got the a/c with the car.
Another pic included, fresh from the garage ;)
cheers!!

Yes, This doesnt look right - The attachments might help

The bracket is back tofront, and needs a longer bolt & sleeve.

That looks a bit "Home Made" to me....

The Long bolt goes through both lugs on the alternator and there is a removeble spacer that sits between the Alternator lugs, and another at the back between the alternator and the Block.

If Dave is around he will probably have some scans of this in the workshop manual ;)

There should be a tube spacer in between the alt & as Pete says,a long bolt through the alt into the engine, with another spacer between the alt & engine.
Won't take much to strip it out & fit the correct spacers (3/8 steel tube)then it will look correct :D

Pete, I agree, but that was how it was when I bought the car way back.
All my body service manuels are for '71 Challenger !, but I cannot find a pic of the setup. I have the spacer that should fit between the alt, I guess it means taking it apart then. Dave........
Dusty, I'll pm you about the details, thanks

Do you need a scan of the stock set-up on a car?

The AC version is different to the non-AC. When I removed my AC system I had to change the water pump pulley to fit the non-AC version of the alt bracket.
