take a seat

Post by Charger »

I’ve realised the front seats in my Charger aren’t correct, they’re low back bucket seats without headrests. I also have a buddy seat. Ideally they need recovering and the foams have gone

The ’70 Charger only came with high back bucket seats (in leather, vinyl or vinyl/cloth) or a full bench with individual headrests (in vinyl), according to Legendary / 70ChargerRegistry (see pic)

Ideally I would like to replace the front seats with ’70 Charger high back buckets. My question is; if I can’t source said items, would it possible to use a pair of high back buckets from say a Challenger, Satellite, Road Runner, GTX … etc.?? Are the brackets / runners / mounting points the same?? I realise there are different seat designs between the different cars, but is the seat frame underneath the upholstery the same?? What are my options??

Thanks in advance :thumbright:

I'm pretty sure high-back buckets from most any Mopar 1970-76 (or was it '78?) will fit, some had different stitching patterns on though so may not be 100% resto-correct.

I have a 71 Challenger with "Tombstone seats. However I HATE tombstone seats :P , and much prefer the 'flat' ones that u have (In fact I was considering a B-bod bench seat). They both need recovering and refoaming (Stripped 1 of em to bare frame) just like urs, but the frames/fittings are ok. Will do straight swap if you want as urs need refoaming and recovering too. Will post pics if ur interested, and perhaps arrange to "trial fit" the seats at sometime if u want. What side of Manchester are u ?

... Oh, and as one of the seats is stripped to frame, will post pics of frame/runners anyway, so u can check against yours :)

Foams would be the same, covers would be cosmetically different but interchangeable

 I thought foams and covers went together?

Not sure if frames were different for each model and year either. You need to check in a Legendary or similar catalogue.

I seem to remember someone recovering plush buckets from a street van (or motorhome or something) with earlier covers ... where there's a will there's a way!

Year One Seat Foam - having ploughed around the seat covers bit of their site it looks like the 3 different foams available (that apply to later cars) are different depending on where the buttons appear :?

I got new foams and covers for my 68 Charger via Wil - the foams/cover are legendary and the quality is top-notch... Their site will be able to tell you the options.

Yeah, I’m a bench seat fan too. Although I think the Charger suits bucket seats better, a couple of the things I was looking for when I was searching for a Charger was a buddy seat and column shift, almost as good as a bench. I’ve got a Legendary catalogue, and after reading replies here, I think the penny’s dropped now, thanks anyway :thumbright:

Thanks guys, looks like at least early 70’s bucket seat frames for B & E body’s are the same, but the foams/covers are different, so as long as I get matching foams/covers I should be on to a winner. Thanks all :thumbright:
