727 set-up again...sorry

Post by vipergts »

Just had the box reconditioned and I'm desperate to get it set up right so that it changes smoothly and kicks down.

The car changes smoothly but changes into top at around 50mph.

The trouble is it doesn't kick down and possibly hangs onto 2nd a bit long.

Where should the line pressure arm be set for optimum change and kick down?

It was set the other way in that it moved through the geras too =quickly but still would not kick down.

Help appreciated.

Adjust the lever longer so it pushes the kickdown in as far as it will go at WOT.

If you want it to change up sooner shorten the lever adjustment.

if the trans is late shifting up its amazing that you then cannot get it to kick down,
as a little test disconnect the rod somewhere so the lever on the box cannot work now go roadtest it and see if the box shifts straight away it should go 1=2 2-3 within a few yards and less than 20-25 mph, if it does that so far so good now get someone to bury the throttle in the car and you push the kick down rod right toward the rear off the car, full kickdown and hook it all up at that if it will now kick down but shifts real late you are going to have to play about with rod lengths or the length of the arm on the trans if it still wont kickdown then either your lever is getting caught up somewhere as it pushes back or you have a fault within the box

Got to a point now where anything short of where it's set means it wont kick down.

I still feel like I'm willing it to change up to 3rd earlier but setting it to change up sooner means no kick down.

Pic attached. The bolt on the right is the working set screw. :?

I may be wrong here but it looks to me as if you don't have enough travel on the lever with that non-stock linkage.

When I fitted the taller intake on the pit,I had to lengthen the kickdown rod for it to work.

Got hacked off with that & went for the lockar kickdown cable & got rid of all the rods.

Blue has a section on this great setup somewhere.

Sorry to say,but that looks like a Heath Robinson to me,thats why I took mine off ;)

Would be interested in th Lockar cable system if you have any info of where to purchase etc.....Is it relatively easy to set up.

Please bare in mind I have little technical ability.....as you can see :?

Since I am a donut in this area I may sub it out.
