Wheel arch stretch

Post by Anonymous »

Had the car back from hausers, great job, they stretched the arches and welded them up.I decieded to smooth the welds down. Not as easy as I thought! The plan is to smooth and fill the arches and try to match the paint colour, and then, towards the end of the year, see about getting the whole car repainted.
My question is should I use one of the rust remedies that you can buy from halfords, garages etc, that you paint on to the welded area, before I prime and paint.

Any help would be greatly appreiceated.

Cheers

Wheel -Arce Repair....

As long as the bare metal surface is clean prepared properly and de-greased there's not normally any need to put something on first. ( Some of these rust protectors can react to different type of primers.)
You must cover any type of primer with a colour-paint as they are susceptible to moisture.( Some primers will come with a rust inhibitor included)
The other thing to do always to is clean up the apposite side of any welded surface maybe seal and either wax- inject or under seal, thus protecting both surfaces. ( Its been a few years since Ive done this sort of thing but that's what i used to do)

lookin good mich, i always use a good etching primer, no need to use any of the rust treatments if rust isnt evident. i also get etching primer on before ubdersal or other underbody treatment , it is important to get the top coat on aswell (as stated by rich) as most primers are porous so dont protect from damp conditions.
on a similar note, what tyres are you running and how much did they strech your arches (i need to do the same soon)
too much is never enough
