Spring broke...

Post by morgan »

Stripping down nasty drivers seat - and one of the main springs that runs from front to rear is broken.

Assume it is tempered and as such simply welding it wont do the job?

Any ideas ? (or even better - does anyone have a spare spring ?)

Morgan.

Just weld it. The heat will not effect the rest of the length of the spring. Its not like its a suspention spring or anything. It's just for your bum.

Solved it ! Although I like the simplicity of 'its only yer bum' :)

You know when you look and look at something, and consider dozens of solutions and problems etc etc ? Sometimes the actual answer is so easy you kick yourself ? This was like this.

I cut the spring off and pulled it forward one link.
Jobs a goodun. (see arrow in pic)

Doh !

Well, they were so tired anyway, I think it has improved things a bit.
Given the new foam going on, and the new covers I figure itll be a bit like the pricess and the pea thing - e.g. will I really notice.

Foam on. Not a bad fit. Legendary covers are a bit tight though. They are in the airing cupboard warming up to try and get them a bit more flexible...
