adjusting drums

Post by Anonymous »

anybody know the correct procedure for adjusting drum brakes,on the fronts I can go from what I would call free,to biting on the drum(the shoes, not me,although I get the feeling it will be me before the job is completed   ) in about 6 clicks, for the rears I lifted the axle & supported on stands (suregrip) ,but the wheels are very stiff to turn (not another problem please :read2: ) so there is no way you could "feel -your-way" (as Olivia Newton John said to John travolta :boomboom: ) :help:

for what it takes , take each drum off and look at the condition off everythin and what is happening when you wind the adjuster, you should then be able to adjust each by feel

If the brakes drag on the drum it can heat up red hot and then lock the wheels solid!

If that happens though it is usually adjusted perfect once it all cools right down again.

Don't ask how I know.

"Whats that hot burning smell?"...

It doesn't do to adjust your front drums manually after a run ... and then wonder weeks later why the car doesn't move
