Hey all
I have a nice pair of superbee / r/t style hood scoops for my 69 coronet. Now as my car is only a clone I wanted really to attach them without cutting enormous holes in the hood to allow the air through. Thus leaving the scoops as cosmetic features only. But I fear that if I do so then the force of the air entering the scoops at motorway speeds or down the track might well tear them off or bend the hood. The hood itself is steel and the scoops are fibreglass with metal threads for the attaching studs set into them. Has anybody done this before, even on a dart or duster. Can the hardware take the force of the air without damaging the hood if there are no holes under the scoops to allow air through?

Not quite sure why you'd want to do that.
All you are doing is putting a great big wind trap on your bonnet to slow you down.
And of course inviting lot's of people to say "Why on earth has he done that?"

Why do you not want to cut the hood? You are going to damage it anyway drilling it to put this on?

It should be fine, if you're unsure you could always block off the scoops with a bit of plywood painted matt black and positioned 4" or so back into the scoops to minimize the effect of air collecting in them.
Many '60s and '70s cars got cosmetic scoops and such ... you will be drilling holes in your hood though, so if it were me I'd go the whole hog and cut holes anyway - its easy with a nibbler and it would be easy to rig then as cold air induction to the engine
