Hi after replacing the clutch on my 69 roadrunner 4 speed I now want to fill the tranny with oil the manual I have says 140 grade. I have a gallon of Morris EP 140 do you think the EP bit will make any difference or should I get just straight 140?

I'll wait to be shot down,but EP140 is extreme pressure oil and is for some gearboxes and some diffs. So ,yes it should be OK.

if its too heavy it will make it very hard to shift...try it

bit of an Aussie outback trick however if its too hard to shift due to too heavy oil

dilute the gearbox oil with a 1/2 pint of ATF. no better.... do it again.

wouldn't add too much though

not big not clever and i can't vouch for if it does or doesn't cause the gearbox to wear out quicker but.....

my gearbox takes SAE30 (odd yes i know but it does)

if you can't get SAE 30

1/2 and 1/2 of SAE90 and ATF does the job.....or so the Australians think....

Does Morris know?

For various reasons I would never use Morris' grinding pas... oops,oil.

You can use 50/50 gear oil and auto trans fluid in your 4-speed.

In fact some people just use straight auto trans fluid.

The roller bearing L/Rover 90/110 box uses tqf and breaks if anything else is used.

is EP140 not a bit high in viscosity?

Agricastrol Gear Oil EP 140 is a mineral based extreme pressure multi-purpose gear oil containing anti-oxidant and anti-foam additives to protect against problems due to oil oxidation, gear tooth corrosion and oil foam. It also contains a special extreme pressure additive to cope with the conditions of high rubbing pressures experienced in hyoid units.

APPLICATION

Agricastrol Gear Oil EP 140 is primarily recommended for the lubrication of commercial vehicle spiral bevel final drives. It may also be used to lubricate spur and helical gears where the manufacturers specifies the use of an E.P. oil.

You should be using EP 90 at worst and even then you need some auto fluid in there too. Otherwise it can be very hard to shift and bloody hard when cold.
