Have you had pitted mazak repaired and rechromed?
There are some bad trim pieces on my Fury on the tops of the rear quarters which there are no sources for, so I need to refurbish them. Has anyone had anything like this redone and what sort of cost was it? do they drill the pits and fill them with something ? Recommend anywhere? I was thinking of trying London Chroming. The pieces are only about 3 inches long.
Will, don't despair. You can get that stuff sorted, but the way in which it comes out is wholly dependfant on the prep. If I were you, I would set to work on that and prep it as best you can before sending it for chroming. Grind out all those pits flat (or as flat as possible), and get all the chrome off. See how the pits look then. They may disappear. What is left will need repairing with bronze, then copper plate, then chrome and buff. You may have a more exacting standard than the chromer so try and clean them up yourself.

Take them to the plater, get them stripped, the pits cleaned of oxide and then heavily copper plated. Collect from the plater and fill every imperfection with solder,file/rub everything to your liking and return to plater. Get him to copper plate again and then inspect. If all is well tell him to proceed with the nickel base and inspect again. Finally chrome plate and polish. Doing the pit filling yourself will save about half the cost of the job as opposed to the plater doing all the work.

thanks to Steve, who knows... everyone in the trade around here, (seriously, he should wear one of those shirts with 118 on).. this chap Brian has rechromed my mazak thingies. They came out pretty well , and the price was extremely reasonable.
The chap lives in East Grinstead but runs a chroming place in Kent. Super cool. The guy is also a top coachtrimmer and his place was full of 1920s, 1930s cars when I went there to collect my chromes. What a handy local person , and it's amazing how these people can be right under your nose and you just never know until you ask around. (Just given him some Datsun bits to rechrome)
