Mind the gap, Windows

Post by Anonymous »

Side windows have gaps at the top when wound up, sould there be a spacer between the trim that screws to the roof, that the seal sits in?

Also rear 1/4 windows seam to sit to far to the rear, resulting in a gap between that and the door glass.

Any ideas? umm just a though, wounder if a can ajust it where the winder mech, bolts to the door.

Alex Doig spent 1 whole day adjusting the drop glass on my Superbird - it is tiresome, but can be done.

Craig.
The glass can be moved in and out at the top and even tilted fore and aft.

you'll probably find that once its all right and matches up nice that when you open and close the window with the door shut that the metal trim strip on the front door glass gets inside the rear window

two chioces

1) throw a massive hammer at the car and storm off into the house
2) spend two days re alining the door at the hinge bolts that bolt into it not the A pillar.

but then you will find the door doesn't shut properly

two choices
1) throw a massive hammer at the car and storm off into the house
2) spend 2 days adjusting stricker plate on lock the big bolt that the lock clicks onto and then of course the fore and aft alignement of the door, that's the bolts at the hinge into A pillar.

at this point the door bottom will slip off the pad you have on your trolley jack and remove a large area of paint

but once done youll find that the rubbers at the front top of the window and along the roof line have been so compressed for so long that wind noise is now unbearable

you have two choices

1) throw a big hammer at the car and storm off into the house
2) slow drift into mental illness, life of crime, prison, suicide.

or

buy some new rubbers

however

you will find the new rubbers are not quite right.

START at the TOP again

been there done that now just drive with the window open

life can be even more fun if your doors are not the orginal ones from the car. at the factory they just took off an akward door and lifted another from the pile.

 made oi larf

On a related subject- how do you remove the weatherstripping that wipes the glass as it goes up & down?
Those rusty stumps holding them on, were they screws or clips or rivets?
Do i have to remove the glass?
If thats the case, aside from the obvious (marking the bolt locations, not breaking the glass, etc) any tips?
No-one will believe you...
