340 timing

does anyone know what the timing should be for my 340/416? got it at i think 5deg

Cant answer your question Si, but it definitly aint 5 degrees

Probably closer to 35 degrees ?

Simon , the motor will tell YOU where it wants to be , carry out a kickback test , look in the tech section , plenty of info there.
At 5* initial you will kill yerself with the unburnt fuel , is this a smog motor.
I'm sure Kiwi will sort it out , or have you messed with it after getting it back?

5* will kill you with fumes inside a minute, 10* won't be much better
get a kickback test done then get the distributor recurved

Agree will but the book says 10btdc to start but this of course dosent allow for wear and teat or any other factors i do the intial to the book then by ear

book is coming up to 40 years old mate, and stock camshaft and much better fuel
it will at least need to be 14 and then a load in the can

I used to run 18 at base it would start to ramp at 1400 rpm and 34 all in at 3000and that was bang on for my 340, being a stroker motor it will probably take more total.
