Did A bods come with 727's

my car is not original and has a 360/727.
when I refitted the trans this week, using the correct linkage and brackets, the column shift woudn't go past Drive from Park. I noticed that the shift linkage actually bumps into the front end of the trans bell housing thingy.
Can't work out why and have resolved it by refitting previous bodge version which relocates the shift rod allowing all gears.
Just can't work out why unless this trans was never designed for a 74 A body

I am sure the early 340 cars did if not ordered with a 4spd but I may be wrong not to hot on the A body or anything else

Miles, my '73 Duster has had a transplant in the recent past too. Also a 360/727 combo and a column shift. I get all gear's. If you need me to take some pictures I'll easy do that!

some of the aussie 360s did mainly K option code cop cars.

727 should fit tunnel of any A bod after 1968 with no mashin or bashin

earlier ones need the flange, lip or seam at the front of the tunnel where it enters the engin bay mashed flat with a nice big 'ammer

or so i've been lead to belive.

Thanks guys, strange one this. I was in too much of a hurry to finish and didnt take pics, but the factory bracket certainly wont let me select gears.
As it is, the car is running with the new trans and convertor apperaing ship shape even if i have had to essentially bodge the shift linkage.

The other issue that i've managed to (just) get around is having a large 2.5" down pipe coming off a 340 manifold.
That also means that the linkage has to be 'worked' a bit.

Andy, if you have a pic from directly above and looking down onto your linkage, i'd appreciate it

Thanks Andy, looks like the servo blocks the view a touch. I've been seraching the web for detailed or any diagram. Proving tricky so far!

My pic shows how it is currently. The orange bar is partly held by a bodge, an eye bolt. If I fit the correct bracket, that bar moves forward an inch and hits the trans housing
(kickdown linkage is unfitted just for thepic!)

Yeh, the servo's right in the way. I'll try and rope the wife into moving bit's and bob's outta the way.

OK, I've had another look. It's really tricky to see from above. I've took a few pictures from below. They are not great, prob of no use at all but they may help you?? If you need me to zero in to any point I'll do what I can. As you can tell I'm not to clued up on these things

The first pic shows the 'correct' bracket that you have fitted which obviously works. I'll have a good gander at mine tomorrow.

Can't face it tonight, spent many hours on this job over the past few weeks. Beer and footy for now!
