Fletcher Dodge Car Show 21st june 2008

Post by Anonymous »

This Saturday was another Indy Mopar club car show. All of their shows are held at Dodge Dealerships in Indianapolis and surounding areas. Anyway me and James took the charger for a driver down south of Indy, got stopped at most stop lights on the way (it's true what they say, catch one, catch them all) but eventually got to the dealership to enjoy the show. There were the usual suspects there, plus a few cars we hadn't seen before and the dealership had a 2008 Challenger up for sale for a bargin price of $61K, and no we couldn't even sit in it. The Fletcher dealership also has it's own "museum" of classic cars inside which added to the show nicely.
Each show has a top 20 award, which is decided by the dealership staff, they all go round marking up their top twenty then the results get tallied up. Anyway there were over twenty cars there, all of them in better condition than the Charger so how suprised were we to actually win one of the top twenty awards!!! First time the car has ever won anything :thumbright:

Anyway the pics from the show are located here:

Then Sunday we took a drive up to Fort Wayne North of the city to go and met the land speed team that James is going to bonneville in August with. They run a '32 Coupe with a blown Hemi in it and James has been trying to give them some Aerodynamics advice. The guy that owns the car has quiet a substantial car collection so I grabed a few snaps of those all stored in the custom built garage under his house (garage came first house went on top!!). We didn't get to look round the house but from the outside it looked amazing.
Here are the Pics from his garage...I also have a video of the Coupe running but need to work out how to upload that so I can share it, will add once I've figured it out.

Brilliant news on an Aussie car winning a trophy, well done. I see its still on British plates, how did the import process go?

It's actually got both on...the US plate is in the rear window, we just haven't taken the British ones off yet :D .

Importing the cars wasn't too much of a a problem, it was the Bovril that caused the dealy!! And registering them was relativley easy, just had to get a local policeman to come round and say "yes it's a car" although James did have to show him where the Vin was on both of them!! James has got some age related plates off e-bay for both the Charger and the Singer but you have to get mr friendly policeman round again to say "yes it's an OLD car" and in some states you are restriced on when you can drive them on the stret if they are on classic plates so not sure if we will bother or not. Maybe wait till we have done the resto as that should be starting after the Nats this year if all goes to plan.

I had to get the local sheriff's dept round to check out the VIN on the blue Regal when I was in Kokomo. Bought the car in New York state and drove it back to IN. The deputy radio'd the VIN in then, if I remember correctly, gave me a chit to take to the DMV.

Relatively painless and not costly ... unlike NJ where Linda gave up in the end.

No smog tests or MoT's in IN either :thumbright:

Yeah Indiana is a pretty cool place to own a car. My yearly tax is $40 for each car and $19 of that is for the plate! The new Charger is a bit more expensive but it would be.
No MOT.
No Smog.
No front plate.
Filled the Aus Charger up for about $60 the other day!

We'll soon find out how hard it is to get a car restored here, I'll keep everyone posted/jealous.
