Slicks question

Post by Pete »

Silly question (sorry)

I note there are "Wear indicators" in Slicks. Some slick have a "two step" level to this. Does anyone know what depth these are, and how much "tread" a slick has when new.

I am concerned that my slicks will not last through the Nats with 3 drivers, so any background information on slick construction and wear properties would be really appreciated, thanks.

You should have little dots on the tyre 'tread' area, the depth of those is what's left, sort of the reverse of road tyre indicators.

I've used a rolling selection of new and used slicks so cant definitively gauge the wear patterns. On new Hoosiers I think I got about 3.5 full weekends before the canvas showed . It was at end of 06 Nats before a last run. Should have entered burnout comp if I'd realised.

I have some part worn 10.5 MTs I could take for spare, but prob useless unless can get someone to change over weekend. bout 2-3mm laft.

Ah, Roydon! Thought you'd gone off the deep end for a minute, Pete! :D

Good luck to all three! :thumbright:

I checked Julie's slicks and they have 3+mm left.
I guess this means they are over 1/2 worn, and the fact that I assume as the diameter drops they wear more quickly then these won't last the weekend.

On with the M/T's, then..........
