Do i have potential 727 problems?

Post by Anonymous »

Hi all, been away for a while, just had a baby girl and they take up loads of time!!! anyway, pulled the charger from storage today and took it out for a good spin, 25 miles or so, when i got back i did your usual checks and noticed that the tranny oil was darker than it was. The tranny is working great, shifts good and firm with no noticeable slipping, the oil is clear and not smelling burnt either, just discoloured. it was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago and had a oil change about 700 miles ago with dexron III oil.
Am I worring over nothing or is there a potential underling problem?
will the tranny oil go this colour when becoming used and is normal?
Do you think it would be a good idea to drop the oil and filter again?
I put some used oil from the tranny on a white background on the right in the pic and some fresh from the same can on the left.
thanks for your advice
Cheers
Sean

Does it work?
Does it slip?
Does it fail to change gear?
Has it got immersed in water?

changed the fluid and adjusted up the bands as per factory workshop manual specs, works great no, shifts stronger.
my only concern is that the bands took a lot of turns on the adjusters, is this normal?

It is normal if they were not right to start with. It would also explain the colour of the oil.

They probably wore down a little with slipping.

You did change the filter as well as per Duncans instructions yes? If not do so. And clean out the bottom of the pan as well.

Sounds like dry Clutches and Bands after a lay up!

The bands were probably loose and were slipping slightly?

How many turns did you set the bands?

Factory setting is 2 turns for both bands.
B+M upgrade trans, is 1-1/2 turns low band, 3 turns kickdown band.

Good luck Bacca.
