I have always wondered that. No end of car photos on forums have their numberplates blanked out. Never have understood - surely anyone who ever sees you on the road can read it ? Numberplates are freely available information - I really dont understand the risk ?
The exception is this pic. If you are gonna do it do it properly. Silver tape over the numberplates. But then in my defence I was doing a track day in my then company car

Best car I ever had (not counting the Charger - that's different).
Had it from new, kept it 5 years, did 90K miles. Track days, (Brands, Donington, Nurburgring) and all it had was service every 10K. Simply awesome and I should NEVER have sold it. My biggest motoring error that was...

I realize its sacrelige on here, but these 9,000rpm buzz bombs are a HOOT to drive. Indestructable, and reputedly one of (if not THE best) FWD cars ever. No electronic gizmos, just awesome revs and an LSD up front. You will have seen it, I parked it on the drive when I lived a couple of doors down from your dad.
I bought a jap import DC5 (the new version that the UK never got) last year. Sold it already. Just not the same....
