So it was apparent there was a lot of confusion cruising to Wheels Day today and recently on the Tunnel Run. Should we be running the period accessory for communication in our rides, the CB radio? We've got handles already and it could come in handy!

Don't forget if you have a real period CB it will be 27 Mhz AM. All legal CBs in the UK were FM and the frequency was originally 934 Mhz (it's illegal to use this frequency now).
There are two legal bands now, UK only (27 Mhz) and the European band (26/27 Mhz).
Since December 2006 you no longer need a licence to operate CB.
I think it's a great idea for communicating on a run and if you don't want to drill holes in the body for your "twig" you can use a mag mount.
10-4 (and 73s)!

arn't the legal ones rubbish i.e interference, signal & communication distance and the illegal ones well the're illegal (but probably better!)
plus i thought they were now clamping down on using anything in a vehicle that takes your hands off the steering wheel like drinking, eating a sandwich or having a fag!

ticking away the moments that make up a dull day, you fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My Mopar upon you

I have a loft full of stuff.... AM, FM, Multimodes, VHF, UHF, HF. Also have a class "A" Amateur Radio license. I used to repair an modify CB's back in the year dot! The AM days were a blast. I have been meaning to stick one in the truck for ages now! Period one of course. To be legal, just use a boom mike, either use a switch or vox.

I am keeping this Mopar....... SOLD!
I had one but it got little use and I sold it. Most of the 2 metre guys in the early 80's started with CB's and very few of them went on to get a class A licence. Spent most of my time on HF on the key. Most of my equipment was home made but I also used a Sommercamp (Yaesu) FL100 100W tx and FR50 rx. I swapped them for a faulty Ten-Tec Omni after I was asked to have a look at it and I still have it. I fixed it 5 minutes after the guy left with my Sommercamp gear.TyreFryer wrote:I still have the Yaesu FT290 my Dad bought me for my 21st birthday, very rarely get on the air nowadays though.
