Convertor woes

Post by Anonymous »

Got the 9 1/2" 3000 stall dynamic covertor which was originally fitted in the ole 440 , this convertor used to lock up on footbrake around 3200rpm , using the same convertor behing the 605" , used to stall @ 4500rpm with the 4.10 gears , changed out to the 3.23s & noticed it slipping even more , the 'punisher' :D ran the 1/4 without a change in engine note , this convertor is now stalling (footbrake) around 5200rpm  .

I'm thinking on changing the convertor out , maybe this thing is going bad? , gearbox fluid is still nice & red.

Any ideas chaps?

Your speed doesn't appear to indicate a serious conv problem.

Adam, one for Blue or Dunc,
your MPH is down just a little on other cars running similar times

why the 323's, and is the GV playin any part in this to ?

Maybe its the box slipping not the convertor ?

Maybe because the Monster has such a wide torque band, it just appears seamless ?? :?

Big stall convertors around but noo good for street use. Custom build is the only way, with balloon plate ;)

Been thinking about this  , the convertor is a dynamic dual stall , maybe it's doing what it says on the tin , even the ole 440 kept the same engine note down the 1/4 , maybe there's nowt wrong with it. :?

Adam
I have an 8" Dynamic, which was 5500 stall but i've just had it tightened as much as poss, which i believe the most is around a 1000 rpm.
You are welcome to try it and if you like it then we can sort a price and you can pay me for it when you can afford it.

Thanks Mick :thumbright:

The one i have was stalling @ 3500 on the 440 , not sure what you're one will stall @ on the 605"? , if it's been tightened say 1000rpm to stall around 4500 then not sure if i would be any better off.

Thanks for the offer Mick , might need it.

Brutal me old mucker, I'm considering a dual stall converter, so that the Barracuda is okay to drive reasonably well on the street, but will perform at the track...how does yours actually drive?

I listened to your engine note when you were racing at the Pod the other week and as Duncan said, it seemed to act like a centrifugal clutch and kept the engine on the boil, but your speed increased.

After checking out the web I can't find out anything practical or constructive about these things... :help:
