70 Charger front Bumper/grille removal

Post by Anonymous »

All,
I am trying to remove my bumper and grille assembly, and wand to do it in as few pieces as possible.

I thought I could undo the 4 large bolts on the two bumper brackets (two on each) at the frame rails, undo the two straps topside that hold the top of the bumper to the wings, and lift the whole thing off. This hasnt happened. I cant get to the bolts holding the bumper to the brackets too easily and they look pretty seized.

If this is possible, should I need to remove that lower valance? It doesnt seem attached to the bumper at all?

Cheers

yes take the valence off clive,
you will need the room and you can then get a big breaker bar in to the big 3/4 head side bolts i cant remember what else holds that front on but have a good scan alround for any daft little brackets or clips for wires etc before you undo the big bolts cause that front is heavy, and will snap anythin in its way

If thats similar to my c-body,don't forget the h/lamp door mech! I've also got a rod about 5/16" tween top of grill and where h/lamp door motor sits.Yes take the valence off, you'll bend it when the weight of the bumper assembly takes over, around 1cwt! Have fun realigning it all later :D ,Take photos first

Hmmm, thought as much Dunc. I will have another bash. Front wiring harness is out, so all I should need to do is get that valance off. I think there are brackets that bold from the inside front of the wongs to the outer edges of the bumper surround. Aint gonna get to them without the valance off thats for sure. (thanks for the help on Saturday too mate :D )

Latil,
70 Charger different to C body as when bumper fully released, whole grille/headlight door assembly, actuator rod and motor comes away as one, just leaving two plates with the HL units in place. Quite convenient really (when you can get the thing off!!!)
