Just a question for the Challenger experts, how many non-T/A Challengers were fitted with the T/A hood, and at what point in the model year ?

The N96 (Shaker) hoods being replaced with the N94 (T/A) hoods is a myth.
The Shakers were available again on the 1970 Challengers before the T/A hood was available as an option.

The N94 hood continued as a 1971 option.

For 1970 N94 Challengers, these totals are known so far;

Hemi - 2
383 - 1
340 - 1

For 1971 cars we know of 2 so far;

340 - 1
383 -1

There is possibly another 1971 340 with one that has not been confirmed yet.

Forgot to say. Production of the T/A was due to start early March 1970 and had to be completed by April 17th to comply with SCCA qualification rules. So the N94 hood would not have been available before then.

On the hood?
The legislation on car design changed several times in th early 70s. The under hood re-enforcement and front bumper had to go through a couple of changes to comply.

Didn't Martin David's hemi Challenger have a TA bonnet ?

Didn't think so. But if it did was it factory fitted or owner fitted?

Flippin eck Dave , Challenger encyclopedia or what. Up in your neck of the woods tonight, dropping the lads off for the match, me and the missus are off for a wander around the quayside, havent been round there for 15 years or more.

Have you any history or photos on Martin David's Hemi Challenger? I am not sure if we are thinking of the same one?

There is a wee Buyers Guide in the latest 'Hemmings Muscle Machine' for 70/71 R/T Challengers.

For some reason, I distinctly remember Martin David's hemi Challenger having the TA bonnet when it was featured in.... hmm, was it 'Hot Car', 'Custom Car', 'UK Hot Rod and Custom'.

It was pale yellow/cream with a black vinyl roof if I remember correctly.

We are talking 1980 or something like that.

Now I think about it, were there three UK hot rod magazine back then:- Custom Car, UK Hot Rod and Custom (or maybe UK Rod and Custom) and was it Hot Car ???

And 'Street Machine' came along as the fourth.

I do remember the one did the article on Martin David saying he had advertised for a hemi car in the US and ended up with the Challenger getting shipped over. The journalist, (was it Keith Seume ?) took it for a drive and thought it was ho-hum until Martin said that the secondaries have heavy springs so don't be afraid to get on it, then it went very well.

It was that article that made me nearly buy the slant six Challenger from John Mimmack. Sadly, Endsleigh Insurance, the students insurers in those days, just laughed.

Just got me confused, a lot of books I've read says they ran out of shakers for Challenger buyers and offered them the new T/A hood

I guess your board members know more facts than book editors anyhow. Thanks for the update
