Austrlian Chrysler diffs

Post by Dave999 »

I have an Aussie Borg warner open diff 2.92:1 in my VH charger. It was reco'ed as they say in Oz about 2 years ago and makes motorway driving a pleasure so i don't want to fiddle with it too much.

However i think an LSD unit would be much more fun :)

so i've been doing a bit of research.

My axels are 25 spline aussie Borgwarner axels

(fords and skylines used 28 spline)

i have a spare 3.23.1 R&P (which is standard for my car)

i can buy a new 4 pinion gear LSD unit from a supplier in Australia that will fit in my case, and also a fitting kit with all bearings shims and crush sleave. cost is about ?200

problem is its designed for a RWD aussie built skyline that used fatter 28 spline axels.

my options appear to be

1) Buy a new 4 pinion centre and an old 2 pinion val one and swap the side gears. (this seems a recipe for disaster new and old under great load usually leads to excessive wear)

2) Just buy an Aussie Val LSD diff and suffer the cost of p&p and take a risk on it not working

3) stick a USA mopar diff in. Which may include re welding spring hangers chopping axels and axel tubes to length, wrong stud pattern and PDC and possibly modifiy the prop shaft and bash up the boot floor to fit it.

MMm Overkill for a 265 with about 140BHP.

anyway I'd rather snap and axel than snap a gearbox......

anyway i'll get to the questions

can anyone add anymore info or advice to help me decide my next move.

anyone got a VH-CM diff?
anyone got a Austrlian borgwarner LSD diff centre?
anyone know if any US mopar diffs fit easily.

which scrap yard did that VH wagon that was for sale end up in? it had a US diff?

I went form a 7 1/4" Borg to an 8.75" US A-body axle (redrilled to big wheel pattern) with no major problems, just weld new perches on. But my body at that point is US anyway.
