Heidts' power steering regulator - bodge or godsend?

Post by Anonymous »

Anyone any views on those PAS valves which Heidts sell? They are basically a way of reducing the line pressure from your pump to the steering box, therefor allowing you to adjust the amount of assist in your power assist.

For those of us far to tightass to even consider a Firm Feel or Flaming River steering box these seem like a cracking idea for like $70 or whatever.

Anybody ever tried one? Or have any reasons why I shoudn't?

presume they connect to both lines and divert the pressure side back to the reservoir when pressure reaches certain point?

i cant imagine it works, bit if it does, i want one.

I know very little about inner workings of power steering (never had a Datsun get a problem so never needed to dismantle)

but i would imagine the PROPER way to increase feel is to fit harder springs in the valve part of the PAS box , anyone know?
