Couple of 6-pack questions

Post by Anonymous »

Hi All,

two (probably) simple questions.

1.) Should fuel line union threads be wrapped with anything to assist sealing at carbs etc.? I cant help thinking it wouldnt be a bad idea but cant think of anything to use that is impervious to petrol. PTFE tape has been mentioned but I dont know if petrol would eat away at it (I know there should never be petrol on those threads if the fule line is seated properly, but I aint too sure).
2.) Does anyone have a really clear, close up picture of the throttle linkages on the 6-pack set-up with standard vac operation? The pictures (if you can call em that) that I got from MP Parts is a poor B&W photocopy thats hard to make out.

Thanks Dunc. My brother suggested PTFE but I wasnt too sure if them unions were supposed to be self-sealing or not, or whether petrol would eat the tape away.

Will do as suggested.

Got my camshaft n pistons in the other day - they turn real nicely. The camshaft is smooth as anything - pleased about that.

Waiting on some more stuff from US at mo. Need an oil slinger and spark plug wire routers (they are bolted through the headbolts so cant put heads on and get timing gear sorted till they arrive)

On another note, I got emailed some pics of a 440 crate motor with "no miles" on it from fella I got other 440 from. You should have seen it. It looked shagged and it was in a car and all plumbed to go except for dizzy and some other bits missing for some strange reason. Cant see how it had no miles on it cos it looked rotten and the valley pan gasket was covered in old oil. Rang him and discussed my thoughts. He got upset when I suggested that if he lived a bit nearer I would see if he could balance it on his head.
