Oil reservoir
Was thinking about fitting a Moroso oil reservoir at the same time as my System1 remote filter to give me a bit of piece of mind if I had a complete loss of oil pressure half way down the strip. If I have 3 quarts of oil in reserve I might stand a chance of stopping and saving the engine.
Was going to control it via a normally closed oil solenoid switched with oil pressure switch ( break on fall of pressure ). At the same time as this activating I was going to cut the feed to the ignition via a relay and light a big red light so I knew I had experienced a loss of pressure.
Can also use this as a pre oiling system for start ups after long storage periods.
Anyone doing similar ??

completely different car, but i run a auqasump in my peugeot 306 touring car, which is used to lube the head before start up & give you a few second life line if you bust the sump.
Ill try & find some info

Decided on the Canton Accusump, as the pre oiling looks easier to wire up using their ecs valve ( combined pressure switch and solenoid ).
Will drive something like this latching relay which will permanently kill the ignition and light the warning lamp until physically resetting.

Still stripping down Dunc, looks like the valve guides were loose and oil got into 4 of the chambers and chirped 4 of the pistons.Cannonball wrote:that extra weight dont matter a Bananarama! if it saves yer mtr,Knightcharger wrote:Mark uses one on his Hemi Cuda as a pre oiler and I j know he is happy with it I fig its ok for a road car to me it's extra weight.![]()

the heads and valves were ok and the bores look good so it is a set of bronze valve guides and a set of pistons so far.

Motor never smoked on start up or decel , so would eliminate valve guides/seals from equation.Knightcharger wrote:Still stripping down Dunc, looks like the valve guides were loose and oil got into 4 of the chambers and chirped 4 of the pistons.Cannonball wrote:that extra weight dont matter a Bananarama! if it saves yer mtr,Knightcharger wrote:Mark uses one on his Hemi Cuda as a pre oiler and I j know he is happy with it I fig its ok for a road car to me it's extra weight.![]()

The Plodge shot its load at the top end of the 'Pod today.
Looked like a major blow up from the tree end.
We got it home, turned it by hand with no issues, changed the filter, pre-oiled it - 75psi, no leaks.
Re-filled and it runs as sound as a pound.
The car is COVERED in oil, including the slicks
It will take days to clean but it would appear there is no engine damage (time will tell if it has shortened the life of the bearings).
The Oil warning light flickered on the tach and Roydon hit the kill switch and coasted.
It would seem that the spin on filter "O" ring seal caused the problem.
Given Blue's thread on filter issues and the idea of an Accu-sump in this thread it would seem that more belt and braces is not a bad idea.....
One final thing - they were harvesting next to Royson's house and the car looks like its been tarred and feathered!!!!!
