Aussie V8 starter and alternator
Hi.
Don't have any problems with either of them at this point however don't fancy getting stranded if the daily driver has a malfunction.
So am looking to fill a few shelves in the shed with some spares.
STARTER:
Have read comments from Blue and others about the Aussie starter being different to that used in the US.
Did some hunting around today and found that there is a VE 273 in a wreckers in Leicester (www.dbmotors.net ph 01858880171).
Gave the bloke a call and he let me down gently and informed me that the VE 273 used the standard US starter and that it is the Aussie TF bell housing that has different bolt pattern for the starter. I think there may be a difference in the number of teeth on ring gear and starter too.
Have also been looking on Queensland Valiant spares and it seems that he is selling what appear to be the type I would need. Calls them 9 tooth. says they suit /6, hemi 6 and V8.

Now the bloke in the wreckers also said that he has a couple of complete hemi 6's including transmissions.
Can someone please confirm if all the above is correct.
I had a look at mine and it is an Aussie item, BOSCH AUSTRALIA all over it, solenoid on the side.
ALTERNATOR:
Do the US alternators mount up the same as mine?

I believe this has 2 lugs on it so it can also be mounted on a 6, that is why you will see a unused threaded lug past the end of the adjusting arm.

i never got as sensible answer from the aussie boards on this
if its a bosch starter the nose reduction gear and pinion can be swapped off you old onto this one
...
i'll call about the hemi 6s
but They will be slant 6s....

The Greater Knapweed near the Mugwort by the Buckthorn tree is dying
Bloke was not sure of capacity but swore they were hemi and not slant.
He reckoned they were whatever the most common capacity imported.
I said maybe he should have a look for the very BIG cast numbers in the block (I think the left side of block if memory serves).
So may be 245.
If they are, are the heads any good top ya Dave.
I figure you are also very interested if the transmissions are auto or if you get to swap the cogs ya self!
I think there were some hemi 6 autos that were TF904..... Is this true? Or were they all BW?

they made a hemi for 3 months or so that bolted to a 904
this was to cover a stirke at borgwarner....
they get called an S block hemi due to the S on the engine nunmber pad
all hemis have S cast into the block....thats not the correct S for identifying an S block hemi

Daren't ask what they came out of.
I do the M1 upto Chesterfield reasonably regularly late on a Friday coming back down to Gatwick on Sunday evening. If anybody wants something collected and they will be around I could pick up going either way.
If its a complete donk i'll need notice to clear the back of the van out, and a hand to get it in/out as my back is mostly Bananarama!!
