Duxford American Air Day -19th August 2011

Post by MattH »

Duxford American Air Day
The MMA has been invited to Duxford to the American Air Day on FRIDAY 19th AUGUST, the details are as below. It would be a good day, even if it is a weekday(!) and will hopefully involve flying as well as static displays, but this is not guaranteed.
Any members who are interested please contact me as I will arrange it all with Duxford. I will need payment once I distribute the tickets.

Matt Hollingsworth;- vehicleregister@moparuk.com or 01462 814051 (leave a message !), or PM matth via the message board.

I just wondered whether your club members would be interested in attending our American Air Day with your club next year? It is a day that showcases the work of the United States Air Force in Europe and usually involves some flying and various
ground based activities that are mainly provided by the USAFE itself (e.g. dog
displays, displays of their maintenance group and weather station and so
forth).

If you would like to display your cars on that day, please do let me know
The event will be on Friday 19 August and usually attracts about 4000 -
5000 people (depending on the weather). All we would ask for is a minimum of
5 cars, and an admission fee of £9.50 per person (still a discount compared
to the standard admission of £16.50) but you could see all the flying
displays and ground activities.

There is no maximum of cars. However, they would all need to be American cars. We would not allow support vehicles (unless the car comes on a trailer) on this occasion.

The tickets need to be pre-paid. We can send you a certain amount of tickets on a sale or return basis, i.e. you would distribute them and we would invoice you after the event for the tickets you used but the unused ones would need to be returned to the Museum.

All cars would need to be in place by 10am at the very latest and would need to remain on site until about 5pm.

Good response so far, we need to have 5 cars minimum, so who else, Pete? Roydon? Race cars could be trailered, and Bassingbourn is 15mins away :thumbright:

Jon, what would you be bringing? One car or a pantechnicon with US built tractor unit?

Hi Matt, Stu & I would be interested, but before this came up, I was thinking it would be good to get back there on one of their Classc Cars days - May 1st or Aug 7th - both Sundays, so more likely to get a better response.

Or did you particularly want to go to this American Air day? :?

We were specifically invited to the American Day, so thought it would be different. Would probably go to a classic day as well, but this sounded like a good chance to see the yanks doing their stuff.

It's a long time since you've had to say that Pete  in the past you haven't known which one to choose! ;)

Precisely, that's why I've thinned out the fleet myself! ;)
