dart mini tub and spring relocation

The following pics are what happens when a mate is betweeen welding contracts- :)
Was just going to be spring move but decided while we were at it......

pics are back engineered as started in mid jan.....

chassis now exposed and cleaned up ready for cutting for new spring boxes-lovely rust free californian metal.....

worst part of this stage was heating and scraping all the underseal off

Wow! Finally getting the respect it needed eh? I could never understand why no one wanted to buy that car..... That is why I snapped it up!

I nearly did - IMO it was a bargain!! It was only circumstances at the time that prevented me buying it. I had to sit on my fingers until Dave showed interest ;)

yes Jeff it is a loveley shell-only rust is in lower rear qtrs and one qaurter has been badly filled on the lower half but it is a 20/20 car and i want to use it not worry about it.

the spring boxes dont come as curved as chassis so once welded in we reshaped and added reinforcement to the holes.....

as a low option 273 car dont think it will be missed much!

well it started with a burnout at the nats which finished off the 7 1/4 axle.
then bought a narrowed 8 3/4 which needed springs moved in,then thought mmm mini tub as well 8-) ......
its all a slippery slope as most people know.
i usually go front to back chasing the weakest bit-now i know the rear is plenty strong.
added bonus is i can get some big tyres under now.....

same as above pic showing extra width acheived-note how well with a trim the trunk hinge bracket relocates.

when doing this job it almost seems as if ma mopar had designed it to be done 8-)

will post some more tomorrow......
