True Trac!

Post by Anonymous »

Hi Moparfolks,

This is the new kid on the Block.

'Eaton True-Trac' once the Ford only locker is now available for Mopars!!! :D

Works as an open diff for street driving and turns into a full blown locker once on the gas!

Have fitted a couple of these now, but Mopar-Al will be blasting this one down the 1320 with 700 horsepower with a mission to run a 10 and still drive home again in one piece!!! :thumbright:

Hey Jon. They are indeed very good. However!

Having just expended a tidy 4 figure sum tracing a vibration on a car only to find its the true-trac unit thats hideously out of balance, its not my favourite product of the moment.

The principle is sound, sadly poorly executed on this occasion.

Not clutches, I think its the way that the gears mesh under load - Geof H tried to sort of explain and then gave up - I don't care as long as it works.

Most of the time they drive like an open axle, once one wheel spins at twice the speed of the other (Like in the burnout box) it locks up and acts like a spool. Roydon has one in the Plodge...........they weight about 50lbs!!

I think it's a larger version of the Quaiffe ATB (automatic Torque Biasing) differential, as used in the Mk1 Focus RS.

Hi All,

Very Expnsive, very Heavy and very very GOOD!!!
Works as an open diff on normal? driving and locks up under load.
Gotta be they way to go?

Clutch units from China are sh*te, Auburn's are an expensive joke and all the Spin-resistance cone jobbies are worn out now!!! :D

Risen from the dead thread... :deadski:

Are we loving these things or not ?
Gotta get my axle sorted out at some point and stop these one-wheel antics.

Known to lock up on exiting bends as you get on the gas, sending the back end round unexpectedly. I much prefer something that is locked under normal driving and gives on cornering. Mazda MX5's (some) have them, turns a reasonable car into a deathtrap. Originally designed for low speed off road use by the military, adopted by offroaders for trials in the 90's.
