68 Coronet

Post by Jules »

Collected my new project today from Southampton docks. :D
Shipped over by Hill Shipping from Isle of Sheeps, or better known as Bacca country
Good service from the guys there at a very reasonable price.
Shipped from Galveston TX , the cost was made even more reasonable when the BTi application was successful, so no duty paid, and only 5% VAT :woohoo:

Seems to be a very solid unmolested car, even has the dealer sticker still on the rear panel.
Build sheet's with it too :thumbright:
It's a base model Coronet 440 with 318/904 (both supposed to be #'s matching, but we'll see when I go hunting for the numbers.)
Bought it from a place just south of Vegas 8-) , so it'll need interior work as it's all abit dried out and shrivelled or cracked.

It's got rust in the usual places for a B Body. Centre of trunk needs replacing, floors need a plate or 2, but nothing major at all.

Just been having a look over it this afternoon, checking fluids etc., seeing whats what with the car, what it'll need etc. but all seems ok so far.
I'll check the brakes tomorrow, then grease up a few things like the wiper mechanism but it'll be a while before it's ready for an MoT. :working:

I won't be working on it yet as I need to concentrate on building a garage for it, and I know if I start tinkering then I'll start spending instead of building, so not much at all will be done on this for a few months, but hey ... at least it's here :thumbright:

BTI? You did well there Jules!
I thought they'd knocked that on the head a few years ago, after the great Charger influx of the mid-naughties :)

Nice 'patina' too.... that's right up Matt Snowball's strasse 8-)

nah, they're still doing the BTI mate, but I guess with everything with a government... if you can have it - they keep quiet about it

Comes under "Historical Interest", but when searching the HMRC sites they all only seem to be last updated in 2007, and the code which this qualifies (9705000090) shows as being for vehicles pre 50's, but later stuff is accepted, just not shown on their "info pages"

I'll be totally honest .... I knew nothing about it til Kev at Hill Shipping spoke about it and put in the application on my behalf.
Saved me about £700 I guess ;)

Better in my pocket than theirs :thumbright:

I had a set of these on my 74 Satellite years ago, so I'm guessing they're later Mopar. 15" too.

I think they were an option on C bodies, I've certainly seen a few with them on.

Nice car Jules, what are your plans for it? I can see you'll be doing a bit of welding.
