Jem's Ratster update

Post by Blue »

Been busy over the winter and finally have something worth showing. Jem wanted a little more under hood impact so a Weiand six pack crossram got bolted in. Modified the existing throttle linkage bracket to fit, sounds easy but needed some long winded mods to the bracket itself and the carb for it to work. Still need to finish the fuel side, that's next.

We really wanted to fit 3 separate filters for that classic '60's look but that was out of the question due to a severe lack of space under the scoop. After much head scratching, the only thing that would fit was the standard style air cleaner as that drops down over the carbs. It's a bit of an ugly old lump so I set about it with the angle grinder. Cut off all the excess metal work and fabricated a new front section to retain the filter. Really happy with the result, just need to decide on the finish, I'm thinking either black crackle or getting the whole lot chromed.

Also fitted a roll bar which solidly mounts the seats and gives a good rear mount for the harnesses. Been meaning to sort out the rear seat area for ages now, so in went a swaged firewall to tidy it all up. Thanks as ever to Gary Layton for his tube bending skills and his steady hand with the bead roller. Check out this thread if you want to see what he's really capable of,

For a chippy he's pretty good with a piece of metal...
