Anyone know if there is any way to speedily obtain a seal kit for the 1972 Chyrsler Valiant Charger Master Brake Cylinder.

I have the standard fitment cast iron unit similar to the below and the seals are shot on the plunger.

Thanks

Hauser racing sell rebuild kits and all the need is the diameter of the master cylinder. I have brought two rebuild kits off them for a drum master cylinder and a disc master cylinder for my charger.

Tried Hausers today they couldn't help with the inner diameter of 26mm being different from anything from the US Dodge's !

Will try USAutomation tomorrow in hope, otherwise it will be an order to Oz and the delay in postage !

Issues ref master cylinder

Obtained a master cylinder seal kit from Oz to rebuild the cylinder, all well until I hit problems with all 3 Tube seats as they were welded stuck.

Have removed them using an easy out but the threads are knackered on all 3 seats and two of the 3 valve springs have disintegrated.

Has anyone any tube seats and valve pressure springs to rebuild the cylinder or even a refurbed unit so I can get the car back on the road ?

Cheers guys,

David.

Cant you adapt a M/C from something over here, as long as you get the bore size correct it should work fine..

Just a thought :?

what year is the car

VH or VJ

i have a VJ booster with a cylinder on it

paid £50 fo it. not been used or moved from the shed in 5 years

stood in wrecked car for at least a year before that

could be a option

I can go dig it out

being VJ it will be a BPR master cylinder....

i.e will fit

if you have a VH one its basically the same casting as some of the US

just the internals are aussie specific

i'd be inclined if not worried about orginality just to buy a US 4 bolt or 2 bolt (as appropriate)

I have two master cylinders one is a from my VH (black ms) 4 bolt pattern with a servo which needs the valve seats replacing.

The second master cylinder complete with a servo I assume is a VJ type 2 bolt pattern BPR (silver ms) but this has a missing lid/cover unfortunately.

Hence either I replace the valve seats on the VH or find a cover and refurb the VJ.

Dave999 what is the condition of the VJ ? I take it would need a rebuild ?

Any other options open out there as I'm desparate to get the car on the road and MOT'd as I'm nearly there with only the interior to then sort !

Think the black ones are similar/same as the front disc yank A body (dart, valiant, etc) from the late 60's early 70's.
May be worth asking what people have in the wanted section.
Good luck.

dunno

i'll have to dig it out
came off car that had been crushed back to the bulkhead
i'd guess with standing your seal kit might be necessary

but as far i can can remeber i took it it off properly and didn't just cut off the pipes.

or i can send ya the lid and we can do deal on the rest at a later date

PBR i got it wrang woy rind

i'd be taking a look at the black one and just getting a yank one in the same bolt pattern save the greif next time

duncan may have one as he is King of brakes at the mo.
they are all the same aprt from pipe routing and valves
you do not need the anti return valve for disks
this sits in the seat below whether the front pipe bolts on

if he has that many drums and disks i'm betting he has his fair share of cylinders

otherwise a "series" landrover one can be made to fit but you'd have to make a 4 bolt to 2 bolt adaptor

girling had something to do with both your aussie black one and many UK classic cars brakes

hang on

the servo is knackerd but the black master cylinder is OK.....?? or have i read that wrong

this is fine

Junk the servo

bolt the mastercylinder to the bulkhead

put a new rubber rod holder in its end (a must if you lift the peddle with your foot you can pull the rod out of the master cylinder

swap rod on peddle to the other hole

jobs a goodun

the servo just servos to flat spot yer tyres

no racing charger ever had a servo

added complication

CAL rcing dept junked em
i don't have one
my brakes work
bloody servos

etc

Dave

if i have read it wrong

what i said before

I think CAL racing only deleted them because of low/inconsistent vac from a racing engine giving unpredictable pedal feel.

I agree that it wont 'need' it, but personal I would keep the booster.

Both servo's for the VH and VJ are fine.

The issue with the back VH cylinder is the valve seats are knackered and need replacement. I've sent an email to pentastar parts in Oz to see if I can obtain replacments but still await a response.

The VH cylinder I do believe is Girling hence hoped you guys might be able to advise on replacment seats from another type of UK/European type car with Girling fitment as the Cylinder looks okay and I've fitted a new seal kit.

In the meantime thought I'd ask you guys because I want the car on the road fairly soon. I'm missing the best of the weather and the NATS coming up !
