I had the intention of painting my Dodge in the 'Color Me Gone' style with a few subtle changes, but speaking to quite a few of my mates they think I should leave it as it is, so what do you think

Why spend more money on it? I am sure you will get an itch and will want something else soon

Your car, your money
I say paint it
Would look well nice in those colours
Would a "U" be included in 1 of the subtle differences?

I've yet to see a race rep car that to me looks better than a factory original paint scheme.
Its all down to personal choice at the end of the day, as has been said your car = your choice.
If it was mine i'd go for leave as is or paint factory white.

Paint it! But make it your own, rather than a replica of a famous race car (I know, I know, pot-kettle-black).
I would lose 2 of the headlights, paint it white, A990 style, and letter it up with "Cheam Motors" or something in period lettering.
But that's just my opinion...
