A Body disc brake question

Post by Dart Vader »

OK,

Me and Si started stripping the front clip I aquired, found a few horrors but nothing too bad

1. Upper ball joint seems to have been welded in to the upper control arm at some point, is this a bodger fix to cure a common problem? Can I grind off the weld and then pop the ball joint out without ruining the UCA?

2. The floating type caliper piston is rusty on the edge that I can see, it take it I will need to replace it. If so where is a good place to get them?

3. The brake discs themselves could do with a skim or is it just not worth it?

When you say welded are you saying you can see weld around the joint or you can't undo them, just been through this and needed lots of heat on the UCA to undo them.

Some people put a few tack welds on to stop the ball joint from coming out as the thread on them are very poor. Gring the weld off carefully and remove the ball joint. Ifte treads are very bad tack weld them back in to be safe
