Timing and bananaramas

Post by vipergts »

Just when I thought I had this car sorted it plays up again :?

Overheating again but think its due to the lecky fans not always working....had a fiddle with the relay at which point they would work and then stop.

Gets so hot the coil overheats and it wont run......Not fun on the side of the A21 in the rush hour.

440 open headers Holly carb with a riser inlet, so nothing special. Think its an MSD from memory

What is a good starting point for the timing please

Runs on super unleaded with additive but pinks slightly sometimes so needs retarding.

I have been given these figures before but I cant find them in the search

Many Thanks Guys

Put the vacuum tube off the distributor and Plug it then with the timing light on the damper increase the rpm till all the mecnanical advance is all in and the at that rpm set the total timing to 34 or 36 degrees and the bring the rpm down to idle and the see what your initial is and then reconnect the vacuum advance. That is a good starting point. I would start at 34 and see how that works with the pinking. If you are having issue with electric fan relay redo the wiring and then see if it help. I would also wire An in line switch into the fan so you can turn the fan on if you suspect the fan isn't coming on automatically. I can't understand why you are having so many overheating issues as these cars are very basic and only a few issue cause overheating. If you ever what me to have a good looks at the car pm me.
