How can you tell...

Post by Anonymous »

I've been told that my Dart runs 360 heads. How can I tell if this is true? The engine is now in bits after my mishap at the weekend so no worries about finding numbers etc. I just need to know what to look for. Still a noobie in Moparland..!

Thanks in advance

If it's a 360, it's not a problem :D

The block is a 318 but I was told that 360 heads were fitted. It seems to have been set up for racing in the US and we need to find out which bits of the damaged engine to keep. Obviously we'd keep the heads but need to confirm what they are.

Find the numbers cast into the head and away you go!!These are all 360.
3418915--1971/72
3671587--1973/74
3769974--1975
3671587 or 3769972--1976
4027596 or 4071052--1977/80
Unless you have 340 heads which will have larger intake valves than any other small block..(In ya dreams) :D :D

If your engine has 360 heads and makes decent power they have been milled to bring the Compression up, the intake will have been milled a correspnding (via a formula) amount to bring the ports back in line. So keep those heads and intake if possible (On a 318) or you are into a load of machining work. Conversely putting your 360 heads and manifold on a 360 probably won't work. (Do I win a beer? :D )

Win a beer??? Hmm me think......

I'm hoping to re-use as much of the old engine as possible as the replacement is a bog standard unit. I already have shiny bits, Weiand X-cellerator Inlet, Holley etc So will probably use the heads, if I've not damaged them too! I wanted to know if the info I'd been given was correct or a load of old bull.

Ok I've thought.... You win a beer if you can answer this question

Where's do you buy your motorsport bit's from? Here or the US. Demon Tweeks perhaps? I need a rev limiter.. surprise surprise and a pair of 3 point harnesses.

If your at Billing this weekend come and say hi, I'll have beer on Sat, but none on Sunday!

Keep yer beer! :D
Seriously though. It all depends what you want. If it is available over here, buy it over here. If you can get a good deal on shipping/import taxes, ship it over. If you run an MSD the rev limiter is a simple job. If not get a stand alone one from Demon Tweeks, but maybe get some more input from the guys here. 3 point harnesses are on Ebay or Eurodragster all the time. Even saw some in pink the other day! Remember if you are gonna go racing for real you will need 3" harnesses to pass tech at MSA events. (Not RWYB) Won't be at Billing will see you at the Nats. Party on, Dude! Your new inlet will need milling if your 360 heads are already milled.

but not if the intake faces on the heads have been milled as well

I just bought some autometer gauges from Declan at Real Steel for a prettty good price. Everything was off the shelf, ordered at 4.30pm, arrived 7am the next day.

I can do an MSD rev limiter and the belts.

Not in stock here though so would have to get a price, 99% of what I sell comes over in big stock orders so there is a wait but the shipping is cheaper than one or 2 items
