Most of us have a suregrip rear end ooh-eer!
The common mistake is>>>>>>>>>>>>>
IF IT STILL SPINS BOTH WHEELS IN THE SAME DIRECTION, with the rear wheels orf the ground, IT MUST BE OK!!!

Unfortunately this is not the case!
With a 'spin resistant' Borg-Warner (cone clutch) the cones bottom out and still act like a locker.
But under load they wont grip and the 'spider gears' only two of them, weld themselves to the cross-shaft!!!

This in turn breaks the small locating pin and the rest is History.

The earlier 'Detroit locker' has clutch plates and will keep on gripping until it dies a horrible death!
Just a $70 set of clutch plates will see the detroit through till our retirements LoL!

It has one inherent fault, which is the cross-shaft pin!
Its a tiny spacer that the axles butt up against on cornering and has a 1/8inch pin in its centre to hold it in place, after 40 years of abuse you know its gonna bee in several pieces by now and chewing up the gears and bearings DoH!

Don't say you haven't been warned LoL!!!

Bacman and Dobbin, always happy to help
