Oil Pressure Off The Scale

Post by Anonymous »

When I was out and about today my oil pressure guage showed the pressure going off the scale, up as far as the needle would go. The temperature stayed constant and there were no visible or audible signs of anything being wrong. It seemed to drop a bit and was then up and down all over the place. Has my guage just gone kaput (it's the in dash original I'm talking about) or have I got something to worry about :?:

'Tis either the wiring dropping to ground or the oilpressure relief valve is sticking, get it checked with a capillery type guage to verify the pressure.

If the pressure is too high it will blow the seals, or the oil filter could balloon or even explode, beware.

Thanks Alex.

I've got to take it in for MOT anyway so I'll get it checked out professionally.

When my pressure relief valve had stuck shut it fired the oil filter out the engine bay! Was quite funny when I look back at it.

Well thankfully I had no comedy moments like that this morning, it made the journey unscathed. :)
