Dean's 68 Charger project (Updated Pics)

Post by Dino »

Here's my Charger as she stands tonight. As you can see I'm in the middle of painting the floor and as soon as I've finished kitting out the new garage with tools, benches etc I'll be starting the resto' and asking you guys a million and one questions!!

Hopefully going to the AACUK show tomorrow so I may see a few of you there

The car was originally a 383 auto but someone has started to restore it, not sure if it was in UK or US though. It looks like whoever done it wasn't worried about getting the spares for it as they've hacked off all the hoses and the wiring looms

They have however dropped in a 440 and a 4 speed!!! And I mean literally dropped, nothing is connected at all. The tunnel has already had the manual part welded in for the shifter and all the pedals are in. Not sure what's been done to the box yet but as you can see behind the front wheel in the photo it's gleaming orange so hopefully someone has recon'd it and give it a lick of paint as well. Until I get the motor out I've no idea if it's been modded at all (I doubt it) but I can tell you it's got the Carter Thermo Quad Carb which I might keep on there for a while. I read somewhere that they're not all that bad, is that right?

The body is quite solid, the boot floor has gone but it came with 2 brand new panels and at some point it's had a rear quarter and will possibly need a new one on the drivers side. Overall though it's not as rusty as I had expected, maybe because it's from California.

Jim, the garage is 18'x25' and it still looks small when the Charger's in there!!! Not as bad as the original garage though, have a look at my webpage. I'm still amazed by g/f let me have the car let alone the garage as well.

Thanks for the interest guys

Here's some progress pics of the Charger. Going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment so the project is on stop again. The Mrs dropped a bombshell that she had secret debts of nearly 40k, as you can imagine the divorce papers have gone off and hopefully the money I get from re-mortgaging will be pumped into the car. :thumbright:

The guys I work with spent nearly 4 weeks solid on the bodywork and it's turned out alot better than I thought possible. The final pics are from my phone hence the duff quality.

Crikey, I love the way you nonchalantly dropped the bombshell into your post!

Got to admit the car looks great though!
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.
