headliner questions on B body

headliner questions on B body
Who has done one here ? did you have the windows in ? where can i get the wires for the rear bow and unfortunately the bows are out, how do i work out which one goes where ? just offer them up to see which fits best.

its better to fit the headliner with out the glass in , & tricky to do with it in , well at least the rear is !
dont mine with front & rear out & its the best way i think

heres the colour codes from my 69 , 68 & 70 chargers are the same too
not that it makes any difference but the colour coded ends went on passenger side
Front
1 TAN
2 SUBLIME
3 BLUE
4 PINK
5 VIOLET / LAVENDER
6 BARE METAL OR BLACK
the bows are not round sort of a triangle shape with the points cut off , from memory , & they need to be springy to fit & hold tension , as you fit them 90 degrees to the position they need to be ( ie bow curve facing flat or backward, then, pull the bow back ( so its arch vertical ) & it sort of locks in the side clips in the correct position !
is it for a charger Mick ? only they have tension springs to that attach to the rear inner roof frame ? to number 6 bow , if you have not got these , fitting will be a pain , & prolly wont work ! because you fit the number 6 first then go forward pulling alittle as you go , & with no tension springs on number 6 bow , pulling it the oppsite way , you wont be able to pull the headliner tight
may be Dunc has a few bows , or sell you one that can be cut & made to size

just reread my post & i got it , round the wrong way so sorry for any confusion , you fit the rods 90 degrees to where they should be ie flat but with the bow / curve facing BACKWARDS , then you pull it forward to the vertical position
have amended my previous post to , sorry for any confusion


don't forget to iron the creases out the headliner , iron from the back & keep the iron moving , also use a hair dryer to heat & stretch as you go ,
plan on it taking all day , anything your not sure about , let me know , if i can help i will

glue , hmmm is it a 67 ? i'm not familiar how they are , but only place that is glued on a second generation charger is where the headliner is attached to the metal underneath the rear package tray & a tiny corner of the rear seat back bracing , did not fancy using glue on this ,Mick wrote:Thank you Steve, it's a Coronet, there's only 4 bows, 2 are still in place' I'm going to have a proper look tomorrow, to see if i'm missing the tension wires. 1 as it takes too long to dry
2 messy should i need to make adjustments
what i used is a few strips of proper carpet/ lino double sided tape ,
best trim glue to use is 3m 08090 , spray adhesive , in a rattle can , should you decide to glue stuff , follow direction on can to the letter ,
used this glue on my vinyl top also ,
can buy it from any motor factors / body & paint suppliers etc
don't let them sell you anything else saying its the same , its not , there is even another 3M spray glue with almost the same part number , from memory , but no where near as good at 08090
Well, i can confirm it takes all day. About 12 hours in the end. I wouldn't say it was perfect, but pretty good.steveo wrote:![]()

Only real problem is that 2 of the bows were probably stiched in to far apart, so struggeled to remove all the slack at the very edge where the trim goes on.
Had a hardryer, but an iron? Doesnt that melt it?
