Paul with the Hurst a like dodge, has snapped a tap of in the axle yoke whilel drilling out to go bigger bolts and girdle, can you take the pinion out and put it back without dialling it back in for mesh ???

Spark erosion I'm advised but expensive

Yes take the yoke off but you will have to re-set the bearing preload when you re-install it. That will be shims or a crush sleeve depending on type.

If it has a solid pinion bear sleeve and not a crush sleeve then you can remove it. I have a friend who is a tool maker and he has a spark eroder
and is good on price as long as its cash. To spark erode the yoke will have to come off as the machine is not big enough for a complete diff.

I hope it's not the Moroso aluminium girdles, they are more failure prone than the stock straps believe it or not, there was a thread about them on moparts a while back. When I tried them years ago, they hit the prop yoke on full suspension travel  Small U bolts are the best solution.

I broke a tap the weekend, got it out with a hammer and punch, just kept hitting it to shatter the tap and picking the pieces out.

Now I think about it, it was a drill not a tap that I broke. It was deep in the hole and jammed but I got it out in bits.

We considered that or similar Mick use a Hydraulic press to Bananarama! until it shattered or the thread gave way

Hi Killer,

Yoke has no effect on mesh, just preload.
741 diff and 742 diff is ok to remove and replace.
489 needs a complete rebuild to replace the crush sleeve.
Bacca has yokes if you desparate?
