Kickdown adjustment

Post by Demon James »

Hi all, after fitting new inlet manifold the kick down on Demon needs a concrete boot slammed through the floor to operate and then it only semed to come in at 60MPH dropping from third to second then back to third when reaching 70MPH. I guessed the new manifold made the backet sit different from before so I lengthend the slotted push rod via the threaded rod. This made the kickdown more "sensative" and feels much better but it does seem to have affected normal gear changes, first to second and second to third now seem very harsh at times, mainly low speed and medium acceleration. Are these springs correct? and should there be much sloppy play in the link arms from the throttle area right through to the gearbox?

If you put on an after market manifold you have to extend the kick down bracket and the spring set up is wrong the linkage has to be loose. If you PM me your email I will send you an extract from the workshop manual that shows you how to set it up.
I can't resize photo's to post them. Dave999 might have the information and be able to post it if you don't want to give your email out

The spring on the front of the kick down rod is wrought them spring should go from the rear rotating bracket at the other end of the slotted rod and then the other end of the spring goes on the pin that the long slot goes on. The slot if the linkage should be around the centre of the pin to stat and then you can make minor adjustments from there.

You have to make sure that the kickdown is set up right as it alters the line pressure in the box. I have emailed the pages to you.

It is always best to start with the stock adjustment settings. But on the whole that can be a little "mild" for us lead footers.

So set it up as stock first and then lengthen the adjustment until it is kicking down and holding the gears where you want it.
