Viking Volks 21st – 23rd September 2012
York Raceway Seaton Ross York YO42 4SS

Vikings racing at York

“Viking Volks festival has been running successfully for 6 years now and this year will be lucky 7” Steve Williams Festival Organiser quotes.
Since its inception back in 2006 Viking Volks has become the North East’s. premier event.
“It was time to move on and develop the event further” says Steve.
The original site had it’s problems especially in the wet, we were sited on a 7 degree hill whilst it had great views and a very rural setting it was difficult to ensure peoples safety and vehicle manoeuvrability.
We really had out grown the site and often people would come to me and say, whilst the bands are always well picked and of a very high standard it would be nice to have some other entertainment during the afternoons. We also have many trade stalls, food outlets, children’s entertainment and a good bar.
Racing was the obvious choice.
For the last three years Daz Chandler of Air Cooled Performance had been pointing me towards York Raceway, a site crying out to be utilised for a full-blown VW event. After careful consideration meetings were held and we took the plunge.
Steve’s background in the VW world stems way back to the early days of Bug Jam, “We used to travel down every year with a truck load of sound equipment and supply Brian PA for the Band & Dance Marquees.
I own a 1971 Type 2 Bay window camper van which I never ever got to Santa Pod in those days. I looked around the North East and realised that there was a distinct lack of VW events. With a lot of help from Daz and Air Cooled Performance who still to this day sponsors the “Show and Shine” and the North East Club members within only three weeks we set up the first Viking Volks Fest 2006.
From that weekend we have grown and gained a good reputation for a quality family friendly event.
There are so many VW events and some have grown to really big events along with high-ticket prices.
In conjunction with Steve and Chris Murty of Pennine Raceways Ltd we are hoping to attract a larger crowd as we now have the space and a well-cut flat field.
We have amalgamated two events Viking Volks and the Northern Drag Racing Championship Finals. I suppose we have the potential of becoming a Northern version of Santa Pod’s major VW events.
Tickets are available www.vikingvolks.co.uk £35 Adult weekend - £20 13 –16 years Children under 12 years go free. Please note day tickets are also available.
