Header paint.

Just a quick one.
My new headers have arrived ( Hedman ).
Will giving them a coat of heat proof paint before I fit them be worth it ?
I understand that they come "blown over " in paint for storage.
So would this coat have to be removed prior to painting ?

Thanks. Gary :thumbright:

Don't bother. It will burn/rust off in no time.

If you didn't want them to look rusty you should have gone for the ceramic coated versions. That is the only way to keep them nice.

I used to get mine aluminium sprayed, they blast them first, then they are coated with a blow torch with a wire feed, lasts for years. I'll be getting the fenderwells on the Demon done just as soon as I get them back from being repaired. I use a local place, http://www.blasters.co.uk/

No Pete, I use the one in the link, I used to do a lot of business with them back in the 90's when I was wrenching for a living. Went to see them just after I got the Demon & the guy who runs it still remembered me even though I hadn't seen him for 15 years at least. Don't know if that's good or bad  they are a big company but still cater for the small jobs.

I had the Dart's Fenderwell Headers and the 'Cudas Headman headers Aluminium sprayed.

Good "half way house" solution compared to Ceramic coating, but much better than painting with VHT paint............

Header wrap works in the fact it helps retain heat & assists exhaust gases, the down side is that it promotes corrosion of the headers

Header wrap completely destroyed my headers in just two thousand miles of driving.

I have been researching all kinds of Header coatings for my system on the Cuda.

Zirtec were the best I could find for my needs, a key point for me was heat reduction & Zirtec offered up to a proven 30% heat reduction.
