'65 Chrysler Newport

Post by 65Newport »

Hi everyone!
having finally joined MMA this year I thought it was about time I uploaded some pictures of my old lady. It's a '65 Chrysler Newport, 4-door sedan, sold new in Muskegon Michigan on June 9th 1965. It stayed with the same family, passed on to a son-in-law on the death of the first owner, who kept it as part of a small collection of cars and used it occasionally for shows until 2006. It was sold then and shipped to the UK in Sept '06 by Terry Newman, who kept it until mid-2011 - I bought it from Chris Catchpole in Romford, Jan '12.
It's pretty much as built - never repainted or retrimmed, but it has a disc brake conversion and presently an 1850 Holley on a Performer manifold, which I'm hoping to convert back to stock in time. Mileage is now 58,600, and I intend to use it (within reason!) as much as possible.
I'm also looking for a set of genuine wheeltrims, 14" Chrysler, which would look better than the fake wires it came with!

I hope to meet up with some of you during the year - I usually make the shows at Billing (AACI) and will try to get to the MMA events if I can.

Cheers one and all!
Steve Miles

Thanks! I love the big old cruisers.
383 - had a two-barrel Stromberg as standard but Terry fitted the Holley and Edelbrock. Chryslers didn't offer a small-block at all. 727 trans, of course!

Hi Steve, nice to see the old girl has resurfaced again!

My lad & I had a ride in the back of that when Chris had it, round the set at Pinewood for that film we're not supposed to mention ;)

If you go up any steep ramps, it tends to rub the exhaust, so be careful

Hi Rob

Not any more! replaced the exhaust last year, now it has a factory-pattern dual, much quieter and better clearance. Did you see the film? I spotted the car in it three times, but just glimpses!

Carl - thanks, pal! It's a super old car, and I'm trying to de-molest the bits that Terry had got at.

Hope to meet you both some time?

Cheers
Steve

Welcome aboard.

Nice car and great condition. I have been to Muskegon Michigan, but I can't remember a lot about it ;)

Look forward to seeing it at the shows and the track!

Hi everyone, and thanks for all your words of welcome and encouragement! Just getting the old lady out for the year and like you hoping for better weather.
A lot of my weekends are committed because of my book-selling events around the canals (!) but will certainly try to get to some shows.
Looking forward to meeting you all in due course!
