Post by Mick »

Has anyone used this, has it got extra zinc in it ?
It's on offer at 15.99 a gallon.

Don't know about the zinc, but it appears to be Duckhams in a Halfords can. It smells like the old Duckhams and is the same green. I'll guess that it's produced and packed by Comma Oil at Dartford. My boys use it in their Fiesta MK1's and I use it in my 318 with nasty effects so far.

Get some decent oil for the Dart Mick. I wouldn't use that Halfords oil if it was free.[/u]

I used ZDDP in my Buick turbo. Yanks swear by it, use it with any oil and no zinc worries. Lots of research done by Buick guru Richard Clarke who's a bit of a mad scientist for this stuff.
Get mine from Ian Reeves on ebay (he runs an 11 second Buick on the stuff).

I run VR1 in the Dart Mick and i've heard it hasn't got the same amount of zinc in it nowadays. Someone recommended the miller classic oil. Which got me thinking that the Halfords classic oil might have more zinc in it as well.
It's for the Coronet but i've got a bottle of GM EOS to throw in with it.
Diesel oils have more zinc in them than regular oils.

Sam your car should be fine with that oil a road car with a mild hydraulic cam with the occasional blast of open throttle you should have no issues also a rebuild cost of under a couple of grand :thumbright: But a race car with an aggressive mechanical flat tappet cam, very high rpm, lots of wide open throttle and rebuild costs of $?????:??

Oil is cheap compared to a complete rebuild

My car is not a patch on Micks car, but I treat it to the best oil I can afford and it gets changed after every meeting in fact I changed it four times in the last year and it only went to the track twice and did a total of four runs. I did the same with my barracuda and when the engine on that was pulled last year to be checked over they remarked to me on how good the bottom end was with no signs of wear.

I bet this has just cursed my motor now :(

Ask Mopar Mark if hes going to put Halfrauds Classic oil in his motor I bet I know the answer ;)
