The real fuelling problem - A Chocolate camshaft

Pete had identified my fuel pump on the hemi 6 was not up to much, and this showed on the strip as well at the top end with total power loss.

Just got a new pump in from Aus, checked the installation was right and found this.

Chocolate cam that was new in 2003 has the lobe completely rubbed off that runs the fuel pump, just a big groove round it. Its even worn the shoulders of the pump lever.

No Nats this year with the Charger then, this is engine out to change the cam, and see what else is damaged. :?

No time at the moment so will have to put it in storage until the Challenger is in fewer pieces.

Bugger, I thought this was an hours job this morning, now it won't even run.

yeah but what caused that ...

sticking pump

too strong pump spring ?

lack of cam lube breaking in the new cam lobes

Stick an electric pump on for now, get you on the road quickly.

Beat me to it - exactly my thoughts!

I probably have a (gay) one knocking about that would do the job :thumbright:

Might need to lift the inlet and check a lifter or two...

is there a ridge? hard to tell.

leccy pump

or i can lend you an engine......

needs a good flush (still full of 1975 oil)
your water pump
the spigot bearing out the back of your current crank
rockers (i can put some back on)
and a head gasket. (which i might have anyway)

belived to be about 45,000 miles and taken off road due to cracked inlet and exhaust manifold (spins over fine)

or i can direct you to a complete unit in a yard will probably be £100 based on past experience, possibly with BorgWarner 35 attached.

its a blue one so post 74 or single barrel auto

If the spigot bearing is the same as a small block then i have a rollerised one...

O/D probably

I/D no idea

The Borg warner single rail 4 speed is TF904 spline (1 and 3/10 ) 30 spline on the tail end and takes a US sized throw out bearing on the front but may not be same spigot size

1 inch 23 spline input shaft mind but is the very end of it the same as an A833.

can check later

erm don't listen to him, just leave the inlet alone and take off the rocker cover and side cover instead :thumbright:

I did wonder about a leccy pump as a quick get out of trouble.
Pete, if you have a gay one about that would be great and it will match the pink car!

Was hoping not to go the whole new engine route as this one had the works not that long ago.

Steve, I did wonder if the spring was too strong but it is a standard pump.
Cam was after market from Aus in the 80's so maybe a poor batch??
