Advice on a speeding ticket
A few weeks ago, I got doing 40mph in a 30mph (there was a hump back bridge involved which makes your belly feel funny when you go over it but I didn't tell the police woman that)
Anyway, my registration number starts V503 but now the letter has come through offering me a speed awareness course, or points on my licence or the option of going to court, my registration on the letter reads VS03, making it a completly different car. When I got pulled over, the police woman ran a check on me and the car on her radio, so she had the registration correct then, I have had a look on the paper work she gave me at the time and going by her handwritting, my reg could read either V5 or VS at the start.
I was wondering of I could get off on this technicality, anyone know?

Dave, look on the Pistonheads Speed and Law section, this has cropped up a few times before!!
The above is the usual sensible advice......a few have challenged, some may have won, but a few have found out that trying it on has cost them more than 3 pts and £60. This is usually in the cases when you get flashed and just get it through the post!
The fact you have been physically stopped........Just not worth the possible risk IMO, take the speed awareness course and keep the licence clean.

Without question....just bite the bullet and do the course.....its a few quid but as Terry said, you were speeding (like we all do) so you cant grumble really....just bad luck that you got caught. Start messing around and things like 'attempting to pervert the course of justice' start to come out of the woodwork and you end up in a world of hurt over what is in effect, a minor offence incurring no points on your licence...

Cheers, I've decided to take the course. It seemed that my only option of getting off with it was to front it out in court which could either go badly wrong and I end up with a bigger fine and points or possibly getting it thrown out but it's not worth the risk.

The course is quite good. It's just a classroom thing with a few slides and films normally. I actually enjoyed it.
It will be nearly all middle aged men. The young lads tend to go so fast they don't qualify for it. Women tend to drive slower.
A lot of the men there will have been caught by a camera they knew was there but they were distracted in some way or just driving with their heads in "automatic" mode.
I actually learned a few interesting things.

Thats what happened to me Dave, when I got my 3 points a few years ago. 40 in a 30 limit, thru a camera I'd passed hundreds of times previously at 30 or belowDave wrote:The course is quite good. It's just a classroom thing with a few slides and films normally. I actually enjoyed it.![]()

Cos it was 40 and not less than 40, i didnt get the option of doing the course so had to take the points. Would have preferred the course tho - reckon we could all do with a refresher after all these years!

The guy running the class I was in got done himself by a camera he passes twice a day.
His wife was going on about what colour they should paint the bathroom while they were on their way to B&Q. He said you could even see in the speed camera photo that she is holding up a colour chart and he is looking over at it.
