Steves 66 Sport FuryIII

Post by Steve »

Right then....thought it was about time I started a build thread for my Fury.

Ive had a chance now to give her a good going over and have started a few jobs. Given her a good clean up and its been a great way to get to know her.

I will stick bits and pieces on when I do them but please remember that this is the first car Ive ever attempted a 'restoration' on so please go easy on me. Im on a budget of virtually zero and I am doing everything on my driveway at home. I am doing the labour intensive stuff while funds are low. There are bigger jobs to be done and I am going to have a go at welding etc when I get my gas sorted and some input from a couple of mates, so that will probably start after Christmas. I am also going to do any paint myself as Ive always wanted to try it.

I am going down the 'close to original' route with upgrades to electrics etc as I go along. Any styling changes will be done in the style they would have been done in the 60s.

OK, a few jobs done so far....

The water pump is noisy so Ive stripped it out today while I wait for my gasket set to arrive. I have a spare pump that I bought from Mick last year so that will go in. While its out, I am going to paint up the pulleys and the radiator in satin black.

Seats are out, steam cleaned and ready for me to try to re colour the inserts....watch this space.

Going back to original on the air cleaner and rocker covers. I've stripped and painted the original air cleaner housing and will put original style rocker covers on that are on their way from Terry. They will be blue as per original.

Ive put new and additional earth straps on the rear of the block and from the alternator bracket to a radiator mounting bolt.

Battery tray was rusted up but solid, so thats now stripped and painted and back in.

Both roof gutters have the remains of the vinyl roof and some sealant in them thats retaining moisture. Ive cleaned one out and its solid so rubbed down and surface rust treated. Got to do same to the other side.

Ive given the outside of the carb a good clean and lubed all the linkages etc. Checked the metering rods and all good. She starts up instantly which is a bonus.

I picked up a pair of Autopal lights at the NEC so they will go on Tuesday morning. They are UK spec for MOT. £38 for the pair...chuffed with that!

Will do the orange indicators while the seats are out as I can run the new wires under the carpet.

Thats it really for now...busy researching the history of the car which I will add to the thread at some point.

Cheers Steve :thumbright:

Good way of doing Steve a little bit at a time and keeping it on the road.Easy taking one of these into a million bits but takes an age to put it all back together, can now see why a lot of projects never get finished. :thumbright:

Definately Jerry...good to have a few jobs on the go as things move on and always something to do. Seats are drying, while Im stripping paint and waiting for gaskets etc. like to have a couple of jobs to bounce between but thats enough I think. Will do radiator while Im waiting so it doesnt have to come out again for paint....and as I am OCD with cars, Ive bagged and tagged the bolts etc...

few pics so far....

Cheers Steve

Steve.
If we lived close we could rent a double garage and work on our projects together. That would be great.
Or a big warehouse we could fill up with C's and more doors. :thumbright:

Looking good mate.

I can see many weekends of scrubbing and painting getting the rest of the bay and engine to the standard of that repainted filter.........No way back now....OCD overdrive! :D :thumbright:

They did some quite lairy thinks back in the 60's, but i'd have to go for race rep.......The Polara is the sensible survivor car......make this one the bruiser Steve!

Always willing to help! ;) :thumbright: :D

Thanks Dave...yeah...plenty of elbow grease needed!!

I do fancy race rep maybe....Dave (D100) can do vinyls so it doesnt have to be permanent. Will give it some thought.

Just sprayed the seat inserts with fabric spray dye, looks ok so far..fingers crossed it drys ok!

Cheers Steve :thumbright:
