latest trend in paint!

Post by Jeff »

Just a note guys, the idiots over here have discovered they can repaint a car for a few bucks and make it look OK.

They are using rattle cans, trade names include, Rustoleum, Tremclad, plastidip etc.

Goes on easy, and looks kinda OK...

Problem is, this stuff creeps under seals and rubbers. If you sand the car, repaint and clear using the correct methods. It can react around seals, weatherstripping and rubbers. And destroy a decent new paint job.

Lots of guys are tarting cars up with this to sell on. So beware if you are buying!! Just a heads up.

I have found a couple of cars that I fancied, but when I find out they have been painted this way, I walk.

Interesting find Jeff!

Are there any tell tale signs or are you relying on the previous owner to be a straight up guy.

Could be a PITA finding out 3 years down the line when you've finally saved to repaint a car you thought was a good buy!

Another plus for buying a patina car i suppose!

Was having a coffee with 68wagon at his bodyshop earlier and he mentioned that the same thing can happen with acid dipping. Apparently it can get right into the seams and seamsealer and seep out once the car is painted causing a similar problem to the new paint.
