1970 charger fuel tank connection

Filled up the charger today and all he'll broke loose. Petrol all over the forecourt!!
Rolled the car over to the corner and took a look.
Petrol was pouring out from the filler tube connection to the tank.
After a nice AA man turned up I syphoned out 25 litres of petrol until the level was well below the connection.
Never removed the tank before, so question is can anyone tell me how the filler tube connects. Does the tube just push through a rubber grommet on the tank or is a rigid connection....either way it needs replacing I think......

Yep, filler tube pushes into a large rubber grommet on the tank. If you can get the filler tube out you should be able to change the grommet in situ, if not the tank will have to come out to do it.

After a lot of argument with Classic Industries about postage costs for a 14 dollar rubber grommet, I finally bit the bullet and paid the 54 Dollars.
This arrived yesterday......
At least i didn't get hit for any customs charges on top

For future referance, items like that can normally be found on ebay with far better shipping charges.

Most of us have had to learn the hard way, had my wallet emptied in the past too...
These days almost anything I need to buy, I have a look on ebay first and usually end up buying there.

Just for reference had similar issues on mine.
Year one was around $10 for the part and $25 shipping.
I now no longer use Year one or Classic Industries due to the astronomical shipping charges. Good companies but paying £20 for something Mr Florida Resident can pick up for $1.50 doesn't sit well with me!
As Blue said, Ebay and the usual contacts on here can get stuff much cheaper!!!!

yeah....bet $10 shipping in a jiffy bag! Ive just bought an NOS tail light lens for £15 inc shipping from Idahomopars on ebay. Dean, the owner, did me proud....I found a payment in my paypal account and he had found a smaller box for it that was cheaper to ship so gave me back $2. What a star!!
